We have had a very tiring but fun weekend, picking a bumper harvest and we couldn’t have done it without help from friends and family ! Thank you so much !
All of our work is by hand with a little help with our new hydraulic press -
We start by picking those apples which have fallen and then shake the tree to get the majority off – these are then hand washed and only the good ones get to press. The apples are then macerated and Kevin fills the cheeses (these are muslin cloths) stacked on wooden frames then the pressing begins.
Each press is put into different vats as we have orchards of old varieties and this means the colours vary but not the quality. After settling overnight the bottling and capping begins – all by hand – and then pasteurised overnight.
We will only have a limited supply of our apple juice and cider as we only press apples from our own orchards.
We then enjoyed a BBQ all washed down with fresh apple juice and cider !
